a song will move the job along.

rebecca minkoff, hilary rhoda, and leandra medine (of: the man repeller) getting ready for the cfda awards to a song that has been heard by pretty much everyone; but for some reason i don't hate this spoof...i want to be friends with them.

fade into you.

him and i. coachella love.

friendship caught on fire.

Photobucket

this is a photo of him and i taken at sunset during coachella this past weekend. three glorious days filled with music, dancing and laughter. a much needed holiday with great company.

i'll give you my love, but not my heart.

this precious short film was introduced to me by a dear friend of mine. starring jason schwartzman and kirsten dunst, the film properly displays the spring/summer '10 opening ceremony collection. watching the 5-plus minute film gives one a sense of nostalgia with its grainy imagery. seeing the faux relationship pan out can make anyone long for something similiar...even if it only lasts until the credits roll.

life of a private affair.

soko, photography by: edouard plongeon

soko's ability to make her music blunt and cute is quite the task. her all-too-honest lyrics are somewhat downplayed by her childish way of speaking. this way, she can perfectly disguise the lyrics that could be easily offensive if anyone else were to sing them. when first viewing these photos i couldn't help but feel completely captivated. soko, in the natural scenery caught in black and white, looks like a young girl playing dress-up on her grandparents' property.

have a lovely little weekend.

"if you're always on your way out the door, you'll never have a place to call home." -sebastian grainger (from the song, american names)

p.s i want to live in that cottage.

halston fw09.

i first discovered this video over at, Fashionista Diary. and have since seen it posted many other places, for very good reason. halston chose to display their latest collection through a beautifully done video instead of the runway. the slow motion captures the collection, wonderfully. the timing of the video along with the music is honestly breathtaking. the main character is the gorgeous dree hemingway, who just so happens to be the great grand-daughter of ernest hemingway. it's especially unique that dree runs through the streets of new york past other models in the rest of the halston collection. the song, "you're the one" by benjamin bronfman (aka ben brewer, and husband to M.I.A) is completely entrancing which makes me watch this video numerous times in a row.

'she's in control'

joy division's, 'love will tear us apart' has always seemed eerily beautiful. the lyrics and the tone of lead singer, ian curtis' voice are passionate, yet painful. so it's no wonder that curtis lived a short and tragic life that ended at the age of 23, when he commited suicide. in fact, deborah curtis, the wife of ian had the title of the song inscribed on his tombstone which shows the significance of the melody that has served as inspiration to many musicians that have lived after the late ian curtis.

control, is a biopic of the last seven years of ian curtis' life. the film is based on deborah curtis' memorir, 'touching from a distance.' the film is directed by anton corbijn who first met joy division months before ian curtis' death in may of 1980. corbijn chose to shoot the film in black and white. originally, the actual black and white version was far too grainy and corbijn thought that was another element that the audience would pay attention to, which would take away from the story. a color version of the film was tranformed into black and white, making the film seemed modernized. corbijn chose the film to be shot in black and white, because every photo of joy division was not that of color.

the selection of the cast is incredible, for there is an uncanny resemblance to joy division. after watching the film i moved onto the special features, which had live footage of two joy division performances. sam riley, who portrays ian curtis, performs just as curtis had. although, it is noticeable that curtis' stage presence was more natural than that of riley. riley does not capture the pain in curtis' voice, but that alone is something rare and doesn't seem to be easily carbon copied. not a single interview of joy division has ever been recorded, making it challenging for the character voices to match up to the originals. memory served as the only source of information provided for that certain aspect of the film. the film in it's entirity was beautifully shot and was filled with information as to why ian curtis had been deeply depressed. the love he shared was sorrowful which translated into joy division's timeless music.

don't stop the beat.

for the past two or three years i've been trying to attend "coachella" down in indio, ca (palm springs). every single year has ended with me being frustrated because none of my friends had the money or knew any of the bands playing during the three day festival. yes, it is understandable, but i still wanted to go. well, this year looks like it is about to change for the better. after reading the lineup and letting a friend of mine know that 'the killers' will be headlining one day, was enough for them. tickets for the music festival went on sale at 9 am this very morning.

for $99 day passes and $269 three-day passes, i feel is completely worth it. from 11am until midnight, for three days, exceptionally great music plays all around. you simply can't escape it, and why would you if you're paying that amount? 77 days until the big days(s) arrive, but who's counting? besides the coachella website and myself, of course. i can't seem to pull myself away from the site, for i keeping scanning the lineup with excitement. if i can, im going to try and convince my friends that the three day pass is worth the money in so many ways.

in no particular order, i can not wait to see the following performances from:

april 17th
paul mccartney (he's a beatle, for goodness sake.)
leonard cohen (beautiful music)
silversun pickups
conor oberst and the mystic valley band (my love for bright eyes.)
beirut (i would be honoured to witness this performance.)
the black keys (they had me at, psychotic girl)
the ting tings
crystal castles
m. ward
the presets (i can see this being exceptionally fun)
steve aoki

april 18th
the killers (because i've always loved them.)
amy winehouse (i have a special place in my heart for her.)
band of horses
fleet foxes
mstrkrft
travi$dj-am (this will be incredible, i know it.)
dr. dog
blitzen trapper

april 19th
the cure (they are classic)
my bloody valentine
yeah yeah yeahs
lupe fiasco (he's so great, live)
peter bjorn and john
the kills (i hope kate moss shows)
sebastien tellier (i think this performance would be hilariously great)
the night marchers

you can check out the entire line-up at coachella.com
