What does it take to work in the field of FASHION?
Which Fashion school ? Many question ........

Which is the best fashion school? How do you choose a fashion school? Which is the best fashion school in Milan? What do you need to know before choosing a fashion school?

FACE TO FACE:
Dreaming to be a fashion designer, to design clothes for successful brands, to be an important name in the fashion world... but how do you get yourself to that?
To pursue this goal, it is not as simple as it seems. There are many secrets that lie behind the world so fascinating. But you do not know how to start!
It is the best to know how things are in reality.
Most of the time, fashion houses open their doors to people who have been recommended by others, but the best ones only stay. Professionalism and persistence and skills are essential. After studying, the next step is to specialize in a specific area of fashion. Forget that you want to work for a famous designer, first step must be about dealing with the simple primary stages, then you can gain positions of greater responsibility.

The working world is like: a cold shower.
After being finished from your fashion school, you realize how difficult it is to find a job.
In some schools, they just teach you how to draw figures - such as learning how to color and draw flower printed dress, passing many days just learning how to paint a body figure.
If that is that case, it's better to attend an art school, not fashion.
Many students from renowned fashion schools have never had the chance to visit textile exhibitions, even after three years of study! They do not know any names of fabric suppliers or not even know how to behave at the exhibition fairs getting samples of fabrics and yarns.
Many graduate being very strong in creativity, who are inspired by the big names, but companies are looking for people who can combine pure creation with the sales trend, which constantly and minimally changes. Therefore, being precise and sensitive is a necessity to understand the complex fashion system.

How to choose the right school of Fashion Design?
In order to choose the right fashion school, you must consider a few points:

• Do not be fascinated by the world that is not yet known
• Ask the school if there is a real program, not just some program made from simple notes
• Compare the program with other schools
• Ask how many students there are per class (If the classes are too large, the teacher will take an hour to get to you)
• Ask what lesson materials are included
• Ask what kind of computer lessons are given during the studies (Photoshop, Illustrator must be offered at the very least)
• Ask to be able to make a contact with an alumni
The interhip
• If the school helps you with an internship – if not provided, you must find on yourself
Warning – Ask for those who have done internship at that school.
Sometimes interns do not perform jobs that are related (such as taking the boss' dog out for a walk which happened to a student)
The graduate fashion show
• If the graduate fashion shows are not appropriate (usually these shows are just for friends and relatives without any press)
Consideration & price of a fashion school
• The consideration of price does not meet the quality or a guaranteed work
• Not always the most famous school is the best fashion school
• The school must provide you to professionalism not just a certificate or a diploma

What is the work of a designer?
- At the beginning of each season the designer sets out a theme of collection
- Create a color folder each season
- Choose fabrics / yarns
- Coordinate the fabrics
- Design and draw the collection according to the fabrics
- Pass all relevant information to the pattern makers to create prototypes (Pattern makers and designers are two very distinctive jobs)
- Check the prototypes created by the pattern makers
- Work closely with the commercial part of the brand
For commercial, the designer must consider:
1) the history of sales of the past seasons
2) the limit for buying fabrics and does not go over the final price at store front
3) the type of product you should not miss in the shop
4) the colors and materials which the market accepts
5) the designer follows the fashion show image to the advertising campaign
... And much more
There are some alternative routes to school:
• At least speak and write English - Often, potential customers are from world wide
• Look for a summer internship not only in your country but also abroad
• Travel to foreign countries to realize fashion outside your country
• Volunteer as helpers even in small businesses (ie: tailors, atelier)
